As NATO's multi-nationally operated fleet continues to support ongoing operations, this major modification will prepare the NATO E-3A to comply with the Single European Skies initiative and give the aircraft unrestricted worldwide access in order to meet SACEUR-directed missions. The delivery of the first upgraded aircraft is expected in 2015. The NAEW&C programme continues to be an example of successful cooperation in NATO. In this time of ever-shrinking budgets, the cooperative effort will deliver more operational capability sooner with increased interoperability and significantly reduced lifecycle costs - Smart Defense at its best!
